The Honeywell Omni-Directional Approach Light System (ODALS) provides a circle guidance and visual identification of the approach end of the runway for landing aircraft and to further enhance the operational safety of large and small airports. The three intensity levels of the ODALS is specifically used for long approaches and in bad weather conditions. The 360 degree horizontal beam pattern, bright flashes of light, and the five light sequential flash pattern aids the pilot in identifying the runway in use. The system consists of seven omni-directional flashing light assemblies.

The light fixtures are usually mounted remotely on 2-inch EMT. The REIL lights are located 40 feet to the left and right of the full strength pavement and in line with the threshold lights. The five (5) approach lights are spaced 300 feet apart beginning at a location 300 feet out from the threshold line and in line with the runway centerline.

The main components of the REIL System are one (1)control cabinet, seven (7) flasher power supply, seven(7) flasher light heads, and miscellaneous mounting hardware. The system produces a short duration burst of white light sequentially along a row of five (5) lights and then a simultaneous flash of both the REIL lights.

System control of the flashing light fixtures is accomplished through the master control cabinet selecting one of three intensities: low, medium, and high. The system provides for either local or remote control.
