Application
The Flight Light Inc. Portable Airfield Lighting System (FL-PALS-1500) provides runway and approach guidance for a 1500 by 30 meter runway (4,921 ft. x 98 ft.). This system is designed for low energy consumption and is powered by a generator at each end of the runway. The PALS consists of Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI), Runway End Identification Lights (REIL), LED Threshold Lights, and LED Edge Lights. The FL-PALS-1500 includes the power distribution units and all molded-waterproof cables necessary to operate the system with two 6KW generators. The system includes crates for storage and transportation on an 18' or larger trailer.

System Components PAPI Systems The two PAPI systems each consist of two Light Housing Assemblies (LHA) and a Power Adapter (PA). The PAPIs project red and white beams to guide the pilot on approach to the correct glide slope. The LHAs contain optical lenses, color filters and two 200W lamps. The PA converts the supplied 240VAC to the 6.6A AC current required to drive the lamps. The PA is equipped with a photo sensor to automatically dim the PAPI system at night. The LHAs are set side by side on custom racks - even with the planned touchdown point on the runway. A set of alignment blocks are included with this system to set the approach angle to 3°, 3.5° or 4°. Spare lamps are provided.
REIL Systems The REIL systems are used to identify the approach end of the runway. The horizontal beam pattern and bright simultaneous flashes allows the pilot to identify the runway in use. The adjustable-angle flash head is mounted directly to the power supply cabinet. The assembly is mounted to a base plate for temporary installation. Spare lamps are provided.
LED Threshold Lights and LED Edge Lights These LED fixtures are designed to be very low power consumption (less than 10W each) and are configured to keep cable size and lengths to a minimum. Threshold Lights (red/green lens) are used to designate the threshold to both incoming and departing aircraft. The lens is arranged so the green half faces away from the runway and the red faces into the runway. The Edge Lights (clear lens) mark the sides of the runway and are spaced at 60m intervals. Complete spare fixtures and spare parts are provided.
